The survivorship of public companies has been declining over the last ten years. Fast paced technology and globalization, two faces of the same coin, have increased the demand for a competitive strategy that can keep companies from fading away. Is there a scientific approach to identify companies with a significant return on capital that is well above their cost of capital? Along with modeling insights, this seminar will offer practitioner insights into screening for competitively superior companies.
Umesh Kudalkar, CFA, has more than 25 years of experience in corporate finance, venture capital, and private equity. Currently, he is a board member of Multi-Act, a global equity research and portfolio advisory firm. Previously, he was the chief investment officer of Dr. Cyrus Poonawalla, chairman of Poonawalla Group, which includes the privately owned Serum Institute of India, India's top biotech company and the world's largest vaccine manufacturer by number of doses produced and sold globally.
Stephen Shipman, CFA, has been an institutional investor for thirty years. He has worked with both qualitative and quantitative strategies; value, growth, and alternative strategies; and has a predilection to small/midcap companies. At his last job with Century Management, Stephen served as Senior Portfolio Manager with Arnold van den Berg and Jim Brilliant, overseeing roughly $2 billion in assets under management, most of it in equities.
